When I deactivate and reactivate the plugin, it asks me if I want to re-insert .htaccess rules. Normally, when I click yes, it works. Here is what happens now:

    1. I click Yes.
    2. I get a message saying rules have been inserted successully.
    3. I navigate to any other page on my dashboard.
    4. I notice the prompt asking me to re-insert the rules still appears again.
    5. No matter how many times I click Yes, the prompt still keeps appearing.
    6. In my file manager, I see the rules did not re-insert. So I had to manually cut and paste code from a backup of my .htaccess file. (I hope that is equivalent and I did not mess anything up).

Hi, no that is not what I mean. I am talking about your permalink settings in your WordPress site. Please check the following URL to understand more about permalinks.

    Thank you

Okay, I tried it. Saving permalink settings does create a new htaccess file. But still, the plugin does not write to it.

Unfortunately I am out of ideas. This could be related to your current server settings or a corruption file in your site. One last action, reinstall WordPress in your site. If this does not fix this issue, I am out of ideas. Sorry about this.

    Kind regards

If I can’t fix it, then what happens if I just manually repaste code into my htaccess file? That won’t work because as I change various settings in AIOWPS, those setting changes are supposed to be making changes to the .htaccess file right? Maybe you could give me an example of such a setting that should write a change to the file? Let me verify that it also does not write.

I mean if I can reinstall the plugin, not re-insert the htaccess rules, and then just reconfigure my plugin from scratch, if that would be functional, I can live with that.

WPsolutions asked to see the log file. It did in fact paste some error message. Would seeing that help him?

    Resintalling wordpress didn’t work.

I verified that enabling things like the basic firewall does successfully write to the .htaccess file. So it seems I do have a workaround, albeit a very inconvenient one. And that is to just completely reconfigure the plugin every time I deactivate it.

Unfortunately, it seems I can’t paste code into the .htaccess manually and expect that to reconfigure the plugin, since the GUI does not get updated by the manual insertions. The next time I change a setting through the GUI, all the htaccess rules are overwritten to match what the GUI says.

Hi, I am happy to know that you have found a workaround to your issue. However in my opinion this does not solve your current issue.

You definitely have some sort of server setting that is stopping this plugin from functioning 100% correctly.

It is very strange that you can write basic rules to your .htaccess file but not all the rules, according to your comment below.

I verified that enabling things like the basic firewall does successfully write to the .htaccess file.

If I were you, I would investigate this issue further with your host.

    Kind regards

I pressed them again, and they insist the only thing that prevents writing to htaccess is file ownership and permissions.

Okay, I guess I will just never be deactivating my plugin from now on. That’s the best I can do.

Yes perhaps that is the best option.

However keep this in mind. If more than 600 thousand users of this plugin are not having this issue on many different servers that includes VPS, Dedicated servers, shared server and different hosting companies, why then are you having this issue? And don’t get me wrong, your host (Siteground) is a good host and has a great reputation.

This is just my humble opinion.

    Kind regards

Guess what? The update you guys rolled out an hour or so ago seems to have fixed this bug I have been having. I successfully deactivated and reactivated the plugin, the htaccess rules did re-insert, and I did not keep getting the prompt asking me to re-insert.

Fluke or not, thanks in either case.

I will mark this support thread as resolved.

    Enjoy the plugin.
