Hello. Lately I’ve noticed if I choose RANDOM in the post query order by, it doesn’t work, it just defaults back to published date instead. This is true of several different sites I’m using this plugin on and in several different grids. Can you investigate please? Thanks!

  • Hi @sarahsas,
The random order is perfectly working in my local work environment. Are you using any cache plugin? This might be a cache issue. Please clear the cache for your page – https://ipoint-tech.com/services/website-hosting-and-maintenance/

Hi @azizulraju ok here’s a list of what I’ve done so far to troubleshoot:

    • Disabled all other plugins
    • disabled server cache
    • disabled local cache
    • disabled caching plugin
    • Activated default wordpress theme
    • Removed any custom code or custom css
    • changed “random” option in query settings to other options (all other options seem to work as expected, but when I switch back to random, it defaults to date order again)

With all these testing variables done in various combinations, no matter which I try, the “random” option still does not work. It only will ever pull the posts in date order when “random” is selected. Any other thoughts?

Please mention the version number of your Post Grid Combo.
Also please try to create on post grid for testing purposes by only selecting the random query option and don’t touch other settings.

    Let us know the update.
    Regards.

    Hi @azizulraju ,

    Post Grid version is 2.2.43

I’ve copied the site to a dev environment and created a new post grid of the “Services” CPT. The only settings I adjusted was query = random, here is the test link for you:

@azizulraju My version does not allow me to select multiple queries – it is a dropdown option and only RANDOM is selected, for sure, see screenshot:

OK! Solution found! apparently it is an issue with WP Engine hosting, by default they disable the random query… but you can re-enable it… from the wordpress dashboard, go to WP Engine -> Site Settings -> Advanced Configuration -> Random Order, drop that option down and tick the box to allow it. See here reference article from your wonderful email support team:

Tested and working smoothly now, thank you!

Glad to know the issue is resolved.
Would you mind writing a review for our plugin? It’ll inspire us a lot.

    Thank you so much.
