Support » Plugin: Testimonials Widget » Random Order Doesn't Work

  • Resolved nbbt

No matter what I try, I cannot get the testimonials to display in random order.

I have tried this through the widget by checking the box, and through shortcode by adding ‘random=true’ and either way the testimonials come up in the order that they were inputted in.

There is a workaround of changing the order of the posts through the interface, but I’d rather it be random so it doesn’t necessarily start with the same one for each user.

What can I do to fix this?

  • I actually can’t get any order commands to work through the shortcode.

I’ll show you what I mean:
None of the following shortcodes will make the widget or the list go in any different order other than what I manually specified through the Testimonials WordPress interface. (I’ve tried each independently as well as different combinations.)

    [testimonialswidget_widget category=short random=true]
    [testimonialswidget_widget category=short random=false]
    [testimonialswidget_widget category=short order=asc]
    [testimonialswidget_widget category=short order=desc]
    [testimonialswidget_widget category=short orderby=rand]
    [testimonialswidget_widget category=short orderby=none]

The simple shortcode [testimonialswidget_widget] and [testimonialswidget_widget tag=support] are working fine on my test system.

Do you have the latest release installed?

Have you tried deleting your Testimonials Widget widget completely and adding a new one without any options set? Random mode for widget is on by default.

Do you have Testimonials Widget Premium activated? If so, have you attempted to clear the cache like

You know what, after banging my head against the wall all day, I just figured it out:

I had another plugin that was interacting with it called “Post Types Order” that let’s you drag and drop to re-order posts. I thought it was just for blog posts, but apparently it affected the Testimonials as well.

I deactivated that other plugin and the problem is solved.

Thanks for the help, I guess that’s one more thing to troubleshoot if people are having a similar problem.

Thank you for the update. Which plugin was the troublemaker?

    It’s called “Post Types Order”

    Here is the URL:

It’s actually kind of handy because you can rearrange the order of posts easily without changing the date on them, but it’s not something I need. I would rather have your Testimonials plugin work properly.

I guess it just overrides the other order functions built into WordPress / other plugins.

Same here. Thanks, that solved the problem.

This is fixed now. It’ll be available in an upcoming release. See FAQ 72 for details.
