I downloaded Yoast yesterday, and now every time I edit a post to add the SEO information, it is adding -2 or -3 or -10 to the ends of my slugs. I have no idea why this is happening, but I don’t want a bunch of redirects on my site. I had my host look at it last night and correct the messed up slugs, but now I am back in adding SEO info to posts today and it is adding the numbers every time I open a post. HELP! I have posted in the Yoast forum with no feedback so thinking maybe someone knows here. May not even be a Yoast issue. I also updated to the newest version of WordPress and Genesis yesterday…

For example…these did NOT have numbers at the end of the slugs and now they did. They were corrected yesterday, and now that I open them again today, it is adding the numbers again.

Anyone know? I am about to throw my computer out the window…

No other posts have the same name, correct? Especially in the trash folder.

Nope, none. It just keeps adding a number to the end of the link every time I open it. One post had a -10 yesterday, I opened it today and now it has a -11….

How about the images in your image library? I believe if they have the same name as the post, the slug might try to throw a number. Any chance that could be it?

Some posts do have the same name as images, so I guess that could be it….however, I have a new post going right now, with no photos uploaded to the media folder, AND no title on the post, and it’s already adding a -2 to the end of the generic slug (i haven;t changed the name or put in a title yet)…I can’t add a photo to show you…

Hm, I see. And if you edit that -2 out, it comes back in some form? Posts and images will interfere with the slug however, so that’s a start. If you switch themes and create a post, does the same happen?

Yes it comes back. Also strange because this didnt start until yesterday, and I have had images with same names for over 2 years etc etc. I don’t want to mess with changing themes as I am really not technical etc and a designed designed my site…

Were there any changes made shortly before it started? Either to the theme or a plug-in added?

I had updated a few plugins, wordpress, genesis, and then installed Yoast. I started editing posts in yoast right after that, and then it started happening. I also deactivated my old SEO plugin, All in One SEO

    Are you using Yoast’s SEO?

    Thread Starter arzea

    (@arzea)

Yes, and i;ve upgraded to the premium version

Have you seen this page? I’m not sure it’s exactly the issue you’re having, but it does relate to the slug being modified

So do I want keep or remove highlighted? I am so confused…

    Scott

    (@scomiller)

I believe this is saying you wanted Remove to be highlighted. Any luck?

    Thread Starter arzea

    (@arzea)

nope, no luck. I think it’s actually a bug in wordpress. Yoast is not seeing any errors on their end. I went through and fixed media files that had the same slug as the post slug, and in some cases that helped, others it didn’t. I am trying to backup from earlier this week to avoid all the updates I did, but my host only has 2 backups and none before the day it happened, so that is useless. I wonder if when wordpress updates to the next version, this will be fixed. I am so frustrated!
