• This may not be multisite specific, but it’s happening on a multisite blog, so I thought I’d post here first.

Just a few days ago I panicked when I clicked “edit” on a post and got the “error connecting to database” page. Obviously my install has had no problem accessing the database since it was set up, so I was taken aback.

I clicked “back” and tried a few more times, and after the third or fourth try it finally went to the “edit post” page. This occurs fairly consistently now.

I was very wary of what was happening, so I backed up the database just to be sure. I’ve contacted my host, so I’ll see if it’s anything technical, but I was just wondering if anyone here might have a clue what was going on. Rogue plugin, perhaps?

  • sounds like the wp_options table in the database is trying to crash – you can run a repair on it

    log in to phpmyadmin
    click on correct database
    check mark options table
choose “repair” from drop down at bottom of screen

Could be a host issue too.

Thanks to you both. Before I could try fixing the database, the host replied saying that he had “loosened up” my MySQL database. Sounds scary. On the flip side, I haven’t seen the issue since, so maybe that did the trick. I’ll still run the repair just in case!

Wow…the very next time I accessed my blog after my last post, before repairing the options database, I received a database connection error.

I’ve fixed the database prefixed with wp_2_, which I assume is blog “2”, the blog in question. Fingers crossed!
