Support » Fixing WordPress » Quotes surrounding urls in links converted to question marks

  • Hi, I am using using versions 3.0.1 and 3.0. All the links generated by my WP blogs to their own posts are surrounded by question marks where there should be double quotes. This only happens on automatically generated links, the links inside the posts which i added by hand are surrounded by double quotes and work properly. All other links contained by the template are fine as well. The template i did myself and it´s quite basic.

    Here is an example of the weird link:

    <a href=>Gamevillage cash match bonus</a>

    All pages contain a UTF encoding directive like this:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

    The Mysql database charset is UTF8

    The problem happens on different types of browsers and show on the status bar on onHover or when you read the source code.

    I browsed the mysql database for WP and i can see no foreign charactes.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Ok, see the curly quotes on the sites source. Can you paste the part of your theme that is displaying titles?
    Is it just titles or are their other links from wordpress doing it too?
    It looks like only titles and the titles in the previous post links. Menu and Links are fine.

    Looking at the code the problem is obvious. I used the wrong quotes in the template. Copying it here just for reference. Thanks for the pointer.

    <?php if(have_posts()) : ?>
    <?php while(have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
    <div class="posttitle"><a href=”<?php the_permalink(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></div>
    <div class="postdescription"><?php the_content(); ?></div>
    <?php endwhile; ?>
    <?php endif; ?>
