 * Hi everyone, I am new to WordPress and trying to understand the basics before
   building my first site. Could anyone point me to a simple starting guide, like
   this [example](https://example.com) page I came across? Thanks in advance for
   any tips!

 * Hi [@mikehassi96](https://wordpress.org/support/users/mikehassi96/) and welcome
   to WordPress.
   So I will recommend you to visit Learn WordPress. So on Learn
   WordPress, you will see on the top Start Using WordPress. It’s a course, and
   inside that you will see the three options for beginner to advanced. So you can
   start with the beginner course, and it’s very short, around four-hour course.
   And I hope after completing the Beginner WordPress User course, you will understand
   more than basic, and you will be able to use WordPress. And I’m recommending
   this because this is not about only WordPress. This is also about the website,
   content and lots of other things like SEO, security. So I strongly recommend
   you to start with Learn WordPress.Here is the course link. [https://learn.wordpress.org/learning-pathway/user/](https://learn.wordpress.org/learning-pathway/user/)
   And for practice you can use Playground. [https://playground.wordpress.net/](https://playground.wordpress.net/)
   Best of luck.
