Question regarding basic usage

Hello Dear Sir,

I am a newby here and please find a second to help me with your kind advise. I am usin the given in Basic usage code to display connected posts to post. Putting the given code in single.php. Works grate! The only problem is that I need this post to be numbered like when using the shortcode ending with mode=ul. Can you please advise how to do this in php? Waiting for your kind reply
