Hi! On one WordPress site I maintain, I see this message in the WordPress Dashboard:

Your site is using a PHP version (a.b.nn) that will no longer be supported by Wordfence in an upcoming release and needs to be updated. We recommend using the newest version of PHP 7.x or 5.6 but will currently support PHP versions as old as 5.3.0. Version checks are run regularly, so if you have successfully updated, you can dismiss this notice or check that the update has taken effect later.

My question: which version of Wordfence will require a PHP upgrade to version 5.3.0 or later?

I was about to upgrade from Wordfence 7.1.8 to 7.1.9 but didn’t for fear it would fail, due to the outdated PHP environment I’m using now.

    Thanks!

    Peace…

    Hello @tomdkat,

So far we have just been warning users that support will end soon for versions older than 5.3.0. As of today, PHP 5.2 is still supported for everything except for country blocking.

Great! Thanks! Any idea when support will actually end for PHP versions older than 5.3.0? What I want to avoid is upgrading to a Wordfence version that’s not compatible and find out *after* something breaks. 🙂

    Thanks!

    Hey @tomdkat,

I apologize, as we are unsure when exactly we will end support on the older versions. I understand you want to be certain not to interrupt your current setup. I will say that now is a good time to think about updating to a newer version of PHP, as it will benefit you both as far as performance, and peace of mind.

Here’s some more information about PHP support, just as a handy little guide.

    Thanks for reaching out

    Scott
