# Question about theme

 * I bought “Private Lawyer Theme” from Template Monster. [http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/49403.html](http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress-themes/49403.html).
   I noticed that Templatemonster recommends that I purchase MotoPress Drag and
   Drop Editor from them for $29.00. I thought this was included with WordPress.
   Am I wrong?
 * I am just a beginner and got way ahead of myself. I bought the theme because
   a web designer told me he could really customize this theme but he wasn’t able
   to.
 * Now, I have the theme and thought I would try to make it work myself and this
   is proving to be quite a challenge. Is this MotoPress Drag and Drop Editor worthwhile?
 * Do I need to spend a ton of time learning how to customize this theme? Should
   I try to hire someone else?
 * Any input appreciated.
 * Thank you.

 * Hi there!
 * Motopress Drag and Drop Editor lets you make customization without typing any
   code. It is not necessary to purchase this plugin in order to customize your
   theme.
 * I would suggest you read about creating a [child theme](http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes)
   for your site, get that set up, and make the changes using CSS.
 * If you post a link to your site and explain what changes you want to make we
   can help you with the correct code to use.
 * I hope that helps!

 * Thanks for the reply. I will read up about child themes.
 * Is CSS hard to learn?
 * I am using Bitnami until I get closer to having a finished product done. The
   could be years-I hope not.
 * Is it difficult to move my website from Bitnami which is local on my computer
   to a host?
 * Sorry if I am going beyond the original question.
 * Thank you for your response.

 * Did this web designer have any experience customizing WordPress themes in the
   past? Or was it because this particular theme is a commercial theme? Many commercial
   themes will change the underlying structure of the “typical” WordPress layout
   a lot to make it more difficult for their customers to change them on their own.
   Sometimes the reason is so they can earn some additional income by customizing
   the theme for you (you’ve probably noticed that they charge $99 to change the
   color scheme, which seems pretty high to me). So if the web designer had difficulty
   customizing the theme, the chances are very good that you will have as much of
   a problem, if not more, since you’re a WordPress beginner. You may be able to
   easily create a child theme, but your changes to it might not work as easily
   as you think they should because of the way they’ve implemented the theme.
 * There’s a good CSS tutorial [here](http://www.w3schools.com/css/), and probably
   90% of what you might want to change can be done using CSS. If you are strictly
   making CSS changes, you don’t have to create a child theme, you can just use
   a plugin like Jetpack or [Custom CSS Manager](http://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-css-manager-plugin/),
   but if you want to make more drastic changes, you’ll have to resort to creating
   a child theme.

 * The web designer told me he could modify the template and my goal was to simplify
   it and also have a photo of the day like I have on my old website [http://www.stevenbolton.net/photos.htm](http://www.stevenbolton.net/photos.htm)
 * He started to make excuses and was not upfront with me and ended up telling me
   that he would need the source code to make the photo of the day page work. Then
   he charged me way more than he said he was going to.
 * As old and outdated as my old website is (made with Frontpage, can I somehow
   transfer it to WordPress so I could at least change the photo of the day while
   updating a new website.
 * I need to learn a lot more than I do now.
 * I did notice that TemplateMonster does charge 99.00 for the color change.
 * I would be fairly content to use the same pages as my old website but update
   it so the new theme is there.
 * The web designer’s efforts are here: [http://pravusmedia.com/bolton/](http://pravusmedia.com/bolton/)
 * Thanks for any input.

 * I got the theme loaded and it works well.
 * I think he was not able to make custom pages maybe.
 * I have hope.
 * Thanks
