[Resolved] Question about Policy Regarding External Links in Plug-Ins

  • I’m preparing my first wordpress plug-in for distribution and have a question regarding the policy of not including external links. My plug-in is for users of SAM Broadcaster and will access their SAM Broadcaster Database on their local machine. In order to provide at least a minimal level of security for the users, if they have configured it to use the user “root”, it displays an error message and directs them to refer to the “Guide to Securing MySQL on Windows” on the mysql.org website or a blog post on my own site that discusses the topic.

As this message only appears if there is an issue, and is never seen otherwise, is this considered okay or would this violate the “no external links without permission” policy?

  • I think this is a non-issue now. I moved the message to the back end, and just made the plug-in non-functional on the front end.
