Pvt Post and password protect not working

    I cannot get back into a password protected page,it refreshes and ask for the password again. And If I try to make a private post and log out, when I go back to my site it is publicly visable not private.
    I’ve tried updating the permalinks and .htacess dosen’t make any difference. The pages are viewable without passwords.
    I changed themes to use the standard WP and still the same.
    Any help would be great!

    update…..
    ok, I updated to 2.06, read through the update process and
    in one of the documentations,sorry I don’t know how to get back to it, I read you need to update the root .htacess everytime you make a static page and the permalinks. So I made a test page,set a password, then went back updated the permalink and recopied the .htaccess to the root and now it works, For the page,I haven’t tried the private post yet.
    I don’t know why. I hope this makes some sense to someone.
    But for now it is working again.
