  • WP Super Cache worked flawlessly since about 2014 when first installed in the mod_rewrite configuration; so flawlessly in fact that the last time I bothered to check cache stats was sometime in 2015. Well, I checked them last week and about fell off my chair.

Of the 112 pages on my site, in “Cache Contents”, it only showed 3 to 5 pages cached under WP-Cache, and from 33 to 42 pages cached under WP-Super-Cache. So of course I manually deleted the cache and preloaded it, with roughly the same result.

I then manually deleted and preloaded the cache twenty to thirty times over the next day and a half with the same results; except it did get up to all 112 pages. Once.

So I switched over to php configuration, edited the mod_rewrite lines out of my htaccess file and tried again, 15-20 times with the same results. I did 8 to 10 hard refreshes of the browser window each and every time I did one of these delete-and-preloads to check what was happening, and often wouldn’t see any progress on caching for a half hour to an hour at a time; seemed it just stalled out.

There are no timestamps anywhere on my pages; I searched for the text “Cached page generated by WP-Super-Cache” and the text “Dynamic page generated….” in the page sources and didn’t find either of them.

The only other weird thing is that I’m getting 404 error messages when trying to pull up some of my own pages at my location; but I think that’s because we are in a 3rd-World country as far as our DSL goes: it’s got a throughput of .45 mbs up to a max of 1.4 or so; or 55 to 175 mb per second. That’s not much, but we get all kinds of glitchy stuff happening as a result. But that doesn’t make sense that it’s affecting the caching, because all the work the caching software does happens on the server, yeah?

I’m not a coder. I’m more of a mechanic; good with wrenches. But if you can explain what’s happening and point me at the right files I may be able to figure this out. I’m happy to pay for debugging and a fix, because I was so happy with this plugin for so long. But now I need a fix.

FWIW I’m using CloudFlare CDN, if that could have anything to do with this. But it worked fine with CloudFlare when installed. All plugins are most recent updates available (can send you a printed list of the plugin configuration if you wish), and everything else on the site works fine. We’re #9 in Google rank for our keyword, aquaponics.

Thanks for whattever you’re able to offer,

With Warm Aloha From Hawaii, Kaimana
