Support » Plugin: Disqus Comment System » Put ADS on your website behind your back!

  • This plugin should be banned from wordpress.org repository.
I’ve been using it for years. From time to time to enable their ad platform called “REVEAL” without asking the website owner. If you do not pay attention they make money off your website without you even knowing.

Disabling this “feature” is getting harder and harder with every update. They are moving towards a model where you either pay them to use the plugin or are forced to have their ADS up.

If you are thinking to install this plugin think twice, because it’s more like an extortion plugin than a comment platform.

  • Only if your site qualifies and you opt into the system.

The diable/opt in option is easy to find – disqus.com/admin/settings/revenue/

“The basic version of Disqus is supported by advertising. Ads are powered by Disqus’ Reveal system, which is highly configurable and allows publishers to choose from multiple different ad positions.”

This year you will start forcing ads on every free user so please just stop trying to hide it.

So, not free software and incompatible with the GPL licence?

If things work like that, it might not be possible for this plugin to continue in the wordpress.org repository, right?
