• I uploaded 100+ images to an Envira Gallery, but found I needed the description to be mapped to the caption. Thankfully I found this great plugin to fix that. Unfortunately, it fixes it in the media library, but does not update the images in my gallery.

Next step, I tried to create a new gallery and import the images I fixed from the library. But now they are inserted into my gallery in reverse order and re-sorting 100+ images is nearly impossible.

Is there any way to push the changes made to the images in the library to the images in the gallery?

Thanks for your positive feedback, for your question and for bringing Envira Gallery to my attention. It looks like a great product, but as you have observed it has its own approach to creating and managing galleries.

I do not have any experience with Envira and I cannot afford to purchase premium/pro plugins for experimentation. Perhaps your best option would be to raise your question with the Envira support team. I would be happy to work with them if there is any way MLA can help.

I am marking this topic “not a support question” because it is really a question for the Envira people. Good luck with your application; let me know if the Envira team wants my help. Thanks for your interest in MLA.

Thank you for the super fast response! I will see what they have to say and circle back if they need input from you.

Update: I was able to remedy my problem by:

    1. Deleting all the images used in my gallery from my media library
    2. Checking “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media”
    3. Mapping my fields
    4. Uploading the images into a new gallery

That is excellent news, thanks! It sounds like Envira copies the information out of the item as it is added to the gallery, so mapping after that point isn’t effective.

Have you tried changing a caption with Media/Assistant “Quick Edit” or “Bulk Edit” after it has been added to the gallery? It would be interesting to know of those updates are reflected in the Gallery.

In any case, thanks again for the good news. If there’s anything else MLA can do for you, let me know.

No, quick edit has no effect. Hopefully they can change this behavior in the future, it’s rather clumsy and unintuitive to have to go into their gallery to change captions!

Thanks for taking the time to try the experiments I suggested. The final experiment would be to go to the Media/Edit Media screen and make some changes there. Depending on which hooks Envira chooses to intercept, the Edit Media screen might work even if the others do not.

MLA uses the standard WordPress wp_update_post() function to make its changes. It’s not unreasonable for Envira to hook the filters provided there and updates its own data. Maybe you could suggest an enhancement to them.

I hope you’re enjoying the “warm” weather in Minneapolis (I grew up there). I see it might above freezing…

I just tried adding a caption in the Edit Media screen and that did not update the metadata in the Envira Gallery. I have sent them a note about the issue, hopefully they will be able to fix it in a future release.

I’m a bit envious of the east cost right now … I’d prefer it to be a bit colder with more snow! I’m a cross-country skier and we’re limited to only a few short snow-making loops around town. There’s a big event this weekend (City of Lakes Loppet) that could have used it! 🙂

I wish we could move all the East Coast snow to the Sierra Nevada to help with California’s drought! Warm and sunny is fine, but showers are nice too.
