Support » Plugin: Simple Social Icons » Pulling images when sharing to Twitter

  • When sharing my post across Twitter, it doesn’t populate an image like it does on Facebook and I feel this would dramatically increase the number of clicks. Is there a way to set this up please?

Hi! Thank you for writing to the forums!

Will you share a link to your site, and maybe a bit more of a description of where you are clicking in order to share a post?

(I’m wondering if it is the sumome plugin functionality, or some addthis functionality, that is powering this on your site, as I saw these types of social sharing on the sarahseestheworld site.)(As opposed to Simple Social Icons functionality)

Let me know if I missed something, or, how else I can help! I’m Looking forward to reading a bit more about the symptom!

    Thanks for your response!

SumoMe is newly installed and potentially a double up. I believe what I have at the bottom of individual posts for sharing, below ‘related posts’ and above disqus commenting is Simple Social Icons?

When I click on the facebook one it shares with an image but Twitter does not (actually Sumome doesn’t either). Would be nice to be able to pull an image through too.

    Hi, @sarahseestheworld!

Have you set up Twitter Cards for your site?

If not, you can use a plugin such as this one:

Once you’ve installed and activated that plugin, follow steps three and four from twitter’s guide here:

As long as your posts have featured images, you should then start to see them as part of twitter’s card format whenever you use the Simple Share button to share a link to your content. (It’s also worth knowing that Twitter cards are supported on their website and their apps, but may not appear in other third-party twitter apps.)
