Publishing pages that DON'T end up in the menu (4 posts)

There might be a thread for this already, but I had trouble searching for my specific issue.

Is there a method or hack to publish pages that don't end up in your menu bar, while other pages stay in the menu? Basically, a client wants to have a press page that looks like this (http://bettysoo.com/press.html), where we host a mini-page of copy that _blank links from the main Press page. But I don't want these smaller pages showing up anywhere else on the theme - just a place to link to. Is this possible? Any help or pointing to a thread that addresses this would be AMAZING!

    Hi Kenny, yes that's possible:

    • create new page & publish it
    • go to your header.php (of the active theme directory)
    • find and edit wp_list_pages function: add the argument exclude = id, where id is the id of the page that will be excluded. Use commas to separate each id if you want to exclude more than one pages, e.g. wp_list_pages ( ‘exclude = 20,21′).
    • To get the id of each page, go to the Edit Page menu, place the cursor on the edit link and get the id of the page found on the page url (wp-admin/page.php?action=edit&post=20).

    Hope that helps ;-)

Glad you got it working, but for future reference you may look into using custom menus. you can read more about it here.
