Support » Plugin: Publish To Apple News » Published Articles Not showing up in Feed

When I publish an article through the apple news plugin it indicates that the article has went through and if I pull open my dashboard on publisher itself, i can see the article being added there, however if I pull open my actual feed on my phone, I do not see all of the articles that it indicates in the publisher. I was curious to see if this was an apple news issue or if this was an issue with the plugin on how it publishes the content to apple news. Thank you for your help.

From your description, it sounds like everything is working correctly in regards to the API push and that the issue is likely on the Apple side. I would recommend reaching out to Apple News support – there is a link at the bottom of the page here.

@jpolsky Were you able to figure out the issue? facing same issue?

I also have the same issue. The funny things is that I contacted Apple for the same exact issue and Apple tells me its not their problem to contact the plugin developers.
This is extremely annoying as Apple doesn’t want to provide any support even though they are the ones advertising to use this plugin.

@abuzer when I contacted apple, they wanted a screen capture of what was happening on their app. However when I was waiting for them to contact me originally, I uninstalled the app and re-installed the app. When I did this everything showed up, so I didn’t have anything to send them, so there was nothing they could do because they couldn’t see what I was looking at. I think it has to do with some cacheing issue on their end(that being the apple news app itself). If you guys are still having the problem, they said you can submit a ticket with them and you can reference case #100487630565. You can send a screen capture using info from this link: https://support.apple.com/en-ph/HT207935. They said they didn’t see any known issues, but maybe if we can show them what you are looking at since you are still having the problem they might be able to help.

@jweekly – can you try what @jpolsky recommended and see if that resolves the problem? The Publish to Apple News plugin is only responsible for sending your content to Apple, and does not control what is visible on the app other than setting certain flags, such as isPreview or isSponsored. The status that is displayed on the main Apple News screen on the WordPress admin (the Articles listing) displays the Apple News Status directly from the Apple News API response, so as long as that says *LIVE* then it should be showing up in the app. The app has some logic of its own in terms of what it displays, though.

Do you know if there are any particular identifying characteristics of the posts that aren’t displaying? Can you verify that they aren’t flagged as previews, or hidden, or sponsored? Were they published to Apple News some time after their original publication date, which might be causing them to appear in a different order than you might be expecting?

@jweekly – Can you send your channel ID to kevin [at] alley [dot] co please? I can do some additional digging on your behalf. Thanks.

Thank you Kevin. I emailed you.

Can you recommend a way we can let everyone using Apple News know to uninstall and re-install their Apple News app so our articles will appear?

We have over 2,600 articles which claim to be published on

    /wp-admin/admin.php?page=apple_news_index

but they’re not on Apple News.

And we don’t want to let all authors be admins–insane idea.

How do we get our posts published?

If you have an issue about how your articles are being promoted on Apple News, that’s outside the scope of the plugin. You should reach out directly to Apple support: https://developer.apple.com/support/

    Thank you for the response.

So all the other Publish To Apple News support posts stating that the users should be WordPress admins in order for posts to be published is not an issue on our sites where editors are editors and authors are authors? (and only admins are admins)

There are various capability filter hooks available if you’d like to alter the capability required to publish: https://github.com/alleyinteractive/apple-news/wiki/action-and-filter-hooks#filter-hooks

In addition, in version 1.4.0, we set the default publish and delete capabilities to the corresponding post publish and delete capabilities for the post type being edited, rather than requiring “manage_options,” which is typically an administrator-only capability. This allows users with the ability to publish posts to also publish those posts to Apple News.
