Publicize Is Pulling Wrong Image (Twitter)
-
Hi there,
Recently noticed that publicize is pulling the wrong image when it shares to Twitter. I’ve double checked my featured image, as well as used Yoast SEO to specify an image–but Twitter is pulling the first image in my post instead. Please advise.
Best,
Caitlin

Publicize is not completed.(Twitter, Facebook, Google+)
It is the time when Jetpack was up 4.3.1 version.I can set Publicize, but it is not completed.
Best Regards,
aya ito@royalsocialmedia: Thanks for the link! I had a look at your latest post, and ran it through Facebook’s Debugger tool. I noticed that it returned the following error:
“More Than One OG URL Specified”You can see more information here:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=https%3A%2F%2Froyalsocialmedia.com%2Fbook-reviews%2Fbook-review-diplomatic-immunity-brodi-ashton%2FWhen you share one of your posts, Facebook crawls your site and searches for information to be displayed with it. You can help Facebook by defining Open Graph meta tags. Jetpack can automatically include these tags. However, it looks like the Yoast SEO plugin is adding these open graph tags twice, causing duplicates.
Could you please check your settings in the Yoast SEO plugin, and reach out to their support staff if the issue persists? Please let me know how that goes!
@ryouryouryouryou: Hi there! Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?

Thank you!
@ryancowles Hi Ryan! Thanks for getting back to me. I’ll reach out to Yoast’s team to see what they have to say. This does seem odd, though, because Facebook pulled the correct image for this post. Twitter is the one that seems to be having issues all of the sudden. Will let you know what I hear…
Best,
Caitlin
Thanks for the update, Caitlin! Please let me know what they say, and we can go from there 🙂
Did some research. It seems I can’t actually contact their support staff since this is a free plugin. Is there any way to turn of the og url from the jetpack side without losing the share/publicize functionality? I don’t see any way to control Yoast’s settings like that. I’m seeing this error for every page/post.
Thanks!
@ryancowles I found the area where I could disable Yoast SEO. After disabling it, I did a fresh scrape and it actually looks like Jetpack is the one adding the duplicate meta tags.
Thanks for the update! I see the duplicate tags you are referring to. I suspect this may be a theme issue. Can you open up your theme’s
header.php
file and look to see if there are multiple instances ofwp_head
?Alternatively, could you temporarily revert to a default theme (such as Twenty Sixteen) and see if the issue persists? This will allow us to determine if a theme conflict is responsible for the trouble.
Here’s what I see:
<?php wp_head(); ?> <meta name="p:domain_verify" content="13b0e9ffc11ac772cdee036be3f4e3ff"/> <?php wp_head(); ?>
Thanks! Jetpack’s Open Graph tags (and Yoast’s as well) rely on
wp_head
to be added to your site. However, sincewp_head
appears twice, the tags are being added twice. Can you contact your theme author, and ask them to help you resolve this issue?I’m no longer in contact with the theme author. I can simply delete one of them, correct?
Awesome, problem solved! Thanks for your guidance, Ryan. Will let you know if the issue occurs when my new post goes live.

Glad to hear that you were able to get this resolved! I would generally advise against editing a theme directly, as any changes would be overwritten the next time the theme is updated. But it appears that you’re using a custom built theme on your site, so it should be okay 🙂
@ryancowels Just published a new post & Twitter still pulled the wrong image (instead of the featured image): https://twitter.com/RylSocialMedia/status/781715540242931716
Facebook pulled the correct image–so as I originally stated this tells me that you guys are having some kind of issue specifically with sharing to Twitter & the featured image. How do we fix this?
Sorry to hear about the continued trouble! I had a look at the post in question, and I see that there are two
twitter:image
tags on that post. One is being added by Jetpack, and the other is being added by Yoast SEO.Can you try to disable the
twitter:image
in Yoast SEO, and see if that resolves the issue the next time you publish a post? That would require me disabling all of my twitter meta data via Yoast, which I’m not particularly comfortable with. This is a recent issue with Jetpack. I’d really appreciate it you guys took a look at what’s going on with your plugin and Twitter since this is a publicize & Twitter specific issue. I have had Yoast enabled for years, same with Jetpack. This became an issue about 2 weeks ago.
