Publicize does not use wp.me short urls

    Hi there,

    I’ve set up yet anothew wordpress site using Jetpack, and enabling it almost only for Publicize and Shortlinks.

    The problem is that it keep publishing posts on twitter and facebook followed by the full permalink, and not the wp.me url as it should.

    I tried to enable/disable the plugin, enable/disable publicize and enable/disable shortlinks, however none of those worked.

    It’s pretty important to me to post the shortened version on twitter, as the permalinks are very long and i’m going to loose hashtags as they are cut down in order to display the url…

    That’s indeed the expected behaviour. We stopped using shortlinks in Publicize a while ago, as Twitter now wraps all links in their own URL Shortener, t.co. The length of your links consequently doesn’t matter; Twitter will shorten them all through t.co, so they’ll be about 23 characters long.

    If you’d like to use shortlinks anyway, you could use this method:

    Thanks for the link, I’ve read many discussion on the topic but I couldn’t find it.

    But I have a problem: why Twitter does not shorten my urls? (well i didn’t apply that method yet, but according to you, urls should already appear shortened, right?)

    Your URLs are shortened. Twitter just doesn’t display the t.co links by default:
    http://i.wpne.ws/fTSt

    It displays the expanded version of the links so you know where the link will lead.

    OOook I’ve got it, I didn’t notice that the displayed url points to a t.co shortened version. Sorry for the confusion.
