Protecting a Custom Post Type

We have implemented Ultimate Member and it is working well with protecting pages. We have a CPT however that is not being protected. The settings do show up on the CPT Category which we have set however the individual blog posts under that category are still accessible. Any ideas?

Within the custom post type “Staff Area,” we created the category “News” and set it to be protected.
See post created with category set to “News”.
Post in protected category is accessible without being logged in.
