Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » “Products by Rating” Widget Thumbnail Ratio Problem

  • Resolved smellcoffee

Hopefully I’m overlooking a simple solution to this.

I’m using the WooCommerce “Products by Rating” Widget in the shop sidebar.

In the customizer I have my main images px widths set to a 3:4 ratio and my Thumbnails set to Uncropped, Customizer > WooCommerce > Product Images > Thumbnail Cropping.

When viewing any WooCommerce page with the sidebar the product images are correctly displayed but the “Products by Rating” Widget Thumbnails are warped.

I would like to maintain the native uncropped ratios (3:4) for the product images when displayed in the product page, the /shop/ or /product-category/category/ archive pages and the “Products by Rating” Widget Thumbnails maintain their correct ratio.

In the Customizer if I want the product images in the archive pages to look good (not cropped) I need to set the Thumbnail cropping to Uncropped. If I do that the thumbnail ratio goes out of wack. If I set Thumbnail Cropping to 1×1 or custom, the sidebar thumbnails get cropped and look okay but the product images shown in archive pages are undesirably cropped.

The screenshots show the customizer settings and the effects in WooCommerce.

    1) (3:4) ratios correct but product images cropped.

    2) Product images no longer cropped but sidebar thumbs ratios are wrong (1×1).

It seems like the product images displayed on archive pages aren’t really Thumbnails and should have their own setting and/or the “Products by Rating” Widget should have an image setting to override the Customizer Thumbnails setting.

Thank you in advance for any help with this issue.

    Hi @smellcoffee

    I quickly checked on my test site with the Storefront theme and there the images do follow the settings I have set for both the product images and the review images;

    Link to image:

The images for the reviews is controlled by your theme and to test that you can temporarily switch to a theme like Storefront to see if that helps.

If it does, I would suggest you reach out to the developers of your theme to have a look for you.

Hi and thank you for your reply.

I had first brought this question to the Theme developer who thought it was a WooCommerce issue but I will follow up with them again and share the information you’ve provided.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

I’m still working on this issue however it does seem to be Theme related.
    Thank you!
