I am Administering a Bookstore Page.

On June 5, 2020 the links for the Author Category sudden gave out an Error 404 response,
I tried reading and find a solution for it but every fix doesn’t work. I’m not an expert on this and is really starting to study and learn everything.

The most of the Author links are generated by WooCommerce under the Product Section along with Tags, Category, Attributes, Publisher, Add New, & All Products. The says it’s /edit-tags.php?taxonomy=authors&post_type=product

Have no idea where to start looking and fixing..

    Hi there 👋🏼

It looks like your /authors/ links are a custom taxonomy, and by the looks of it it’s being added to your shop by the MyBookTable plugin that I see active on your site. I’d suggest reaching out to their support, as it’s not related to WooCommerce as such.

In the meantime, what often helps with custom taxonomy issues is to re-save your permalinks. Go to WP Admin » Settings » Permalinks, do nothing else but click the “Save Changes” button on that page twice. If the issue is to do with rewrite rules, then this might solve it.

@eastofwest It is usually not with the MyBookTable Plugin they use to be separate Authors..
Authors for those who have digital products & Authors that is with WooCommerce..

What happened was when the WooCommerce Custom Taxonomy started giving out Error 404 Response the website automatically redirects it to the Authors listed in MyBookTable.

Then it sounds like there’s competition between the rewrite rules for who will use the /authors/ address.

If there are two separate sources that are both trying to create content at /authors/, then you’ll have this conflict. The solution is to rename one of them to not also use authors.

    Hey @anviltech,

If you have created a WooCommerce product category on your site called Authors you can try changing that some something else other than Authors by visiting WordPress Admin > Products > Categories.

From looking at your site we think the secondary /authors/ taxonomy is being added by a free plugin called MyBookTable Bookstore. If changing the name of your WooCommerce Product Category does not work we’d suggest reaching out MyBookTable Bookstore support below to see what the best approach would be going forward.

@stuartduff Sorry but it’s no a Product Category, It’s a Custom Taxonomy or Additional Detail to the Product which is giving a response of Error 404.

Thanks and I would suggest going forward you reach out to the creators of the MyBookTable Bookstore plugin. The free WooCommerce plugin does not create an /authors/ permalink structure or display those on products and authors are part of the WordPress core software itself.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
