I have not had success setting up product categories -subcategories. The products show up instead of subcategories. I have experieced this on several sites. I have been building WordPress websites for over 10 years. I have read other reports of this and tried the suggested fixes. Never works. I have set up this test site for you to look at. It is using the underscore theme with no changes, the only plugin is woocommerce. I have switch themes to another wordpress core theme, sucj as 2023. Still no good. Thus I have eliminated all possibe conflicts. This is clearly a core issue.

    Hello michaeljamisontttttttttttttt

Thank you for contacting WooCommerce support.

I checked the link you shared and is the Shop page.
To display categories instead of the products, you need to change the settings at Appearance → Customize → WooCommerce → Product Catalog.
Here is a screenshot for your reference:

Let me know if you need further help.
I am here for you. 🙂

    Best regards.

Hey there. We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.

No, this has not been resolved. Your reply to my post ignored what I wrote. Before I submitted this, I read through many of the related posts on the subject and tried all of the suggestions. I used the custimizer settings, I made sure the correct setting was made on the catagory page. I tried this using several different themes. I tried it without running any other plugins. I triied it on a barebones theme (underscore). I tried it with different products. I am familiar with the process of indentifying and isoloating problem code. There is something wrong with products showing instead of subcatagories. There is also an issue with the video guntenburg block not staing aligned but that is another topic.

    Hey, @michaeljamisontttttttttttttt!

I was not able to replicate this issue on my website, but I’m happy to help you investigate what is causing it on yours.

I checked the website linked on your first message, but I was not able to see the issue there. Is it the test site you mentioned?

Regarding the original theme you were using, is it a Full Site Editing theme? If if is, you would be able to see an option called Editor, under the Appearance tab.
The reason I’m asking is because FSE themes, such as Twenty Twenty-Three, do not use the Customizer and making changes there while using a FSE theme won’t make a difference. So, if all the themes you tested were FSE, that’s the reason the customizer option does not work.

Now, if you have tested with non FSE themes, let’s investigate this further.

To start, can you please switch the theme on the test site to Storefront so it is easier for us to go through the troubleshooting with you?

Then, can you please share a screenshot of what you see under Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce >Product Catalog?

Also, please share a screenshot what you see under Products > Categories.

I recommend using https://snipboard.io. You can share the direct link to the image as a response to this topic.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

The test site I created (nuancesyrup.com) not longe has the test set up I created for you as you didn’t bother to fully investigate, I switched the site back to something else.

As I first reported, I first experienced this on a site running Storefront theme. I could not totally eliminate all of the potential conflicts as this was and is a functioning e-commerce store. I also experienced it on other sites I own and maintain, using other themes. I am fully AWARE and totally know how to use the customizer and all other finctions and aspects of WorPress, as I SAID, I have been doing this since 2011. I have made dozens of websites with WordPress and build themes from scratch as well as using ready made themes. The last time it happened, I decided to help out wordpress by setting up a site that absolutely, positively without a doubt, once and for all PROVED there is a core issue. Instead of taking me seriously you have wasted my time, wasted the time of any other people who have struggled with the same issue. Your attitude is that of a condescending twit.

    Hello michaeljamisontttttttttttttt,

    Thank you for your reply.

I genuinely appreciate the expert insights and feedback you’ve provided regarding the issue. It’s clear that with your significant experience as a web developer and your extensive history of working with WordPress since 2011, you have a deep understanding of the platform.

Our standard process often involves attempting to replicate reported issues within a test environment for clarity and to aid in our investigation.

However, I respect that you have already conducted extensive troubleshooting on your own. With that in mind, I would be happy to take another look at this issue, considering the meticulous steps you’ve already taken.

Could you please confirm whether the site where the issue originally occurred is still available?

Your expertise and time are greatly respected, and I want to ensure that we approach this situation with the attention and care it deserves.

I look forward to your reply. 🙂

    Best regards,
