    Hi guys,

I’m new to woo and need some advice. We’ve been building rank for category pages for a few months and are ready to start uploading products but i have a couple of questions:
-When i import products do i need to choose category/sub-categories? We don’t want any /product-category/ pages because we have our own product category pages ranking already. For example we have test.com/perfumes with test and this page already ranks so we want to insert perfume products onto this page and keep the current ranking texts, rather than have test.com/product-category/perfumes as generated by woo.

After reading around different posts and forums i see there is a solution to this, by using redirects. I don’t see any redirect option in my product categories, do i need to add more plugins to achieve this?

    Thanks

    Hi @easylifespain,

All product categories in WooCommerce are created by the WooCommerce plugin themselves and include the text /product-category/ within the category permalink. You can change the permalink structure from WordPress Admin > Settings > Permalinks > Product category base. The Product category base cannot however be left blank.

It’s also not advisable to remove the /product-category/ parameter or a replacement as it could cause page loading errors on your site. You can read more about that here.

    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/removing-product-product-category-or-shop-from-the-urls/

What I suggest is that you redirect the custom categories which you have created like test.com/perfumes to test.com/product-category/perfumes using a 301 redirect.

    Hi Stuart,

Wouldn’t it be better to 301 the other way? Redirect /product-category pages to the current (already ranking) /category pages.

    Thanks

    Hey @easylifespain,

I’d suggest that it would be better to redirect to the standard WooCommerce category structure as it would be easier to manage going forward.

    Hi @easylifespain,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread 🙂

    Cheers!
