    Hello,

We are using WpAllImport to import products. Product categories are created during the import process (if they don’t already exist).

Is there any way of setting the default to No Index when a category is created?

I have tried turning off the taxonomy (product_cat) settings “Show Product categories in search results” but this disables all sitemap entries (including categories we have purposely set to Index).

    Thank you

@blkpudd We’re sorry we aren’t aware of a way to set imported categories to noindex in the manner you described. Maybe someone watching these forums can assist you further, but if your topic is inactive for 7 days, we’ll mark it as resolved to keep the overview.Thank you for your understanding.

    Thank you replying.

Can I double check turning off taxonomy (product_cat) setting “Show Product categories in search results” means all product_cat don’t appear in sitemap, regardless if product category is manually set to show in sitemap (Allow search engines to show this Category in search results = Yes)?

This kind of defeats the purpose of the Yes option on the category page.

    Cheers

If you set the product categories not to appear in the search results from SEO → Search Appearance → Taxonomies (tab) but selected a certain category to show it in the search results from the Yoast SEO meta box, it will appear in the search results.

Whenever you make a change by editing to a specific page using the Yoast SEO meta box, it overrides the global settings that you have defined in the SEO → Search Appearance page.

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately this aspect has never worked as you say. It seems logical that it should work, and we have tried it on several sites and the result is the same.

Have you tested this feature on your own server?

    Hi @blkpudd

We can confirm that setting the option in Search Appearance for ‘show product categories in search results’ to ‘no’ and then setting an individual product category to ‘yes’ still doesn’t generate the product category sitemap.

There was a GitHub issue for this previously, but was ultimately closed, because of the niche case and performance impact.

However, while that individual product category won’t be listed in the sitemap, it doesn’t mean that it won’t be indexed, as it does still output the meta robots tag of ‘index’, so if you have the correct site structure and there’s a link to that product category, Google and the other crawlers and bots will still be able to follow links on your site and eventually include that product category as well.
