Trying to use Simple Local Avatars with W3TC caching plugin. When using the CDN option, W3TC scans the media library and uploads the images. It doesn’t seem to be finding the files that are created by this plugin so those links are broken when replaced with CDN URLs for that file.

Anyone using these two plugins together and with CDN enabled?

  • Ok figured this out. In case anyone else has this problem, in W3 Total Cache, go to the CDN tab, find the “Rejected files” field and enter:

    wp-content/uploads/*_avatar-*
    wp-content/uploads/*avatar.jpg

This will have W3TC ignore any avatars created by the Simple Local Avatars plugin. The downside is they won’t be cached on the CDN, but it’s a small price to pay for caching the rest of the media files.

Big thanks for posting this, I’ve been looking for a solution for hours! This worked perfectly for me with a couple of tweaks:

    1. wp-content/uploads/*_avatar-* –> wp-content/uploads/*_avatar_*
    2. I added other extensions e.g. wp-content/uploads/*avatar.png

And kudos to Jake Goldman for this great plugin.
