I’m having problems with both downloading and updating plugins.

I have decided that the problem may stem from a faulty version of 3.8.2 which was automatically updated recently since everything was working correctly up to that point.

I have just tried to reinstall this version with the following result and error message:

    …………………………
    Update WordPress

    Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-3.8.2-no-content.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

    Could not create directory.: wordpress/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/directionality

    Installation Failed
    ……………………………………

So is there anyway I can revert to ver 3.8.1 and stop auto updates?

A failed installation like this means that nothing actually changed. If it could not install 3.8.2, then you’re still running 3.8.1.

As for the bug you’re having, it’s saying that it cannot create the necessary directories for files, which suggests that you have a permissions problem with your files. The same problem could prevent you from installing or updating plugins as well.

Check the permissions on your files on the server as well as their ownership. Figure out why it can’t create those directories.

    3.8.2 has been installed.
    This message is displayed:

You have the latest version of WordPress. Future security updates will be applied automatically.

If you need to re-install version 3.8.2, you can do so here or download the package and re-install manually:

As I said I have tried to re-install 3.8.2 and cannot do so. I would like to backtrack to ver 3.8.1 to see if that will remove the problems so I repeat is there anyway to go back to ver 3.8.1

OK I cured the problem by removing the dozen or so non-active plugins that I had for possible future use and the problem has gone away.

I regret that I didn’t make a note of those removed; sorry about that.

I’m having the same problem with attempting a reinstall of WP 3.8.2. Deleting all of my inactive plugins has not fixed the problem, however.

I’ve also had multiple issues with trying to update plugins in which the install fails. I get error messages that say the plugin could either not create a directory or copy a file.

I notice several other threads out there indicating similar gripes ever since the 3.8.2 update. Can’t help but wonder if there’s a bug that needs patching.
