If you have a look at this page you will see the images that our experts have added to the post in their comments have appeared on the original post and in the comments
I also have a plugin called “Comment Attachment” – is it that that is causing the problem?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Yeah most likely. USP does not do anything with post comments. You may want to ask the plugin developer should be able to help.

I have to beg to differ
When I deactivate the plugin Comment Attachment, the images disappear from the “comments” but remain on the original post
I can deactivate for you, if you want to see

Perhaps I’m not understanding the issue.. what exactly is USP plugin doing or not doing that it should/shouldn’t? Please help me to understand so I can try to help, thank you.

Roger has created a USP with 2 images. He wants us to identify a fern.
Andrew (me) has added a comment without an image
Alison has added 2 comments each with an image (using Comment Attachment plugin)
David has also added a comment with an image (using Comment Attachment plugin)
Roger’s original post now has 5 images attached to it. I think it should only have the original 2 images attached to it.
You can see all this if you access the URL above
If I deactivate Comment Attachment plugin, the images disappear from the comments but remain on the USP

Does that make it more understandable?

Incidently, if you click on the images associated with the comments, they expand in the lightbox (which I like). If you click on any of the images associated with the USP, they do not (which I don’t like so much)

I wanted to add that this would be difficult for you to reproduce at your end unless you installed the plugin “Comment Attachment” and tried to reproduce what has happened.

I am guessing you did not anticipate that someone might want to comment on an USP and upload an image with that comment

Yeah this sounds like an issue with the comment image plugin. Allow me to explain. USP enables users to submit posts from the frontend. Once a post has been submitted, it’s treated by WordPress just like any other WP post. After the post is submitted, USP has nothing to do with it. So other plugins that may operate on posts or post comments, really are doing their own thing, without USP involved. My best advice is to contact the developer(s) of the comment image plugin, who should be able to help.

That in mind, I am willing to help if there is something that needs done on USP’s end, for example some code or whatever that needs added/edited in order for full compatibility.

    Have a look here: https://ebps.org.uk/test-post/#comment-63433
I create a post using the standard WordPress “Add Post” and included 2 images
I then made a comment on that post and uploaded another image
The comment image is not included in the original post

    And now look here: https://ebps.org.uk/test-usp-post/#comment-63434
I created a post with USP and included 2 images
I then made a comment on that post and uploaded another image
The comment image IS included in the original post

The only difference between these 2 posts is that one (that went wrong) is created by USP and the other was not. Therefore it would seem to me the problem must lie with USP. The Comment Image” plugin works fine with the “standard” WordPress Post

I think you would need to try to reproduce this on your machine in order to understand what is going on

    You were right
It was nothing to do with your plugin
I have found the solution and it was a setting with Comment Attachments
    Please accept my apologies

However, there is a request I would like to make
Could you add rel=”lightbox” on image attachments?
Or add an option for it in settings?
I notice that Comment Attachments has added this function and it works well in my theme

Glad you got it sorted out.

For the rel attributes, it already should be possible to add them for the Auto-Display Images setting. Not sure about the Featured Image though, but definitely will check and try to add something in the next plugin update.
