Support » Fixing WordPress » problems with dashboard add new post

  • Hi there,

Today, all of a sudden, lots of features are just not working for me.

Most importantly, I can’t use the visual editor to add links or images to my posts – when I try to add a link, 1. none of my posts show up in the ‘link to existing content’ section, and if I enter the link manually, it kicks me back to my list of posts (losing any changes to the draft I was working on, also). If I click on the uploader, nothing happens at all.

Also, the pull-downs in the top right corner (help, screen options) don’t respond to my clicking on them.

There may well be other things broken that I just haven’t tried to use yet. 🙂

The only mentions of this I found were actually older posts on the wordpress.COM forums, and there it was said that it might be just a browser compatibility issue. I have up-to-date Firefox and IE on this machine, and have tried both with no luck (and, it worked fine on both prior to this).

Any ideas? I don’t code and uploading all my files via FTP then coding manually sounds more tedious than what I signed up for. 🙂 Thanks!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, it looks like it is my theme! I’m using Blaskan (with a child theme). I will try looking around for some help specific to the theme, I guess!
