I can write and submit, but there is no new contribution. * My custom templates do not work as expected. I have been using the templates for several years without any problems. Since one of the last updates, the problems have occurred. I’m currently working with eme 2.0.18 and WP 4.9.2 * I’ve tested a bit, with a new WP installation and eme as the only plugin + standard theme without a child. I created 2 events using the same single event format. In the 1st event I used the code as default format, saved in the settings, in the 2nd event as a custom format, stored in the templates table. The 1st event looks good, in the 2nd event there are many additional
tags. I’ll check, but it is just plain wordpress 🙂 Concerning br-tags: wordpress is not very user-friendly with those. It can/will/might remove br-tags or not (depending on possible plugins that change the behavior). So, currently I translate all found br-tags to newlines (which get translated back to br-tags later on) and also all existing newlines get translated to br-tags. In your case, it also seems you use random carriage returns inside e.g. a-tags, and those will change the layout. Don’t use br-tags yourself unless you really want them, just use carriage-returns. Also put your carriage-returns in sensible places. Removing all carriage returns from my code in plain text makes it a pain to work with, and I don’t really see the added value of the wysiwyg editor (but maybe that’s just me). What’s even more inconvenient is that code now behaves differently when entered in the Settings pages or in Templates. Personally I would be very happy if you gave us the option to switch off the wysiwyg in the Template editor. Lots of people (including me) fight with it all the time. Anyway: it is much more user-friendly to use wysiwyg for html-related templates (like mails, thank you, event format, etc …). I have been using my templates for many years with much success. Since the end of last year, the problems with the blank lines have arisen. It has since changed something in WP or EME. The wysiwyg view may also be beneficial for some people, in many cases it will produce unexpected results. I use the templates e.g. also for lists, with a tables layout. For this I use 3 templates, header, body and footer. In this case, I can not use the wysiwyg editor, it would remove all tags because there is no tag in the body. That part, again, is all WP, not EME. Play around in the wysywig by switching to text or html view and you’ll see (try adding br-tags or p-tags and see what happens). * Now, when only adding partial html, I get it that *again* the wordpress implementation of tinymce is trying to correct the html when switching to html-view and back, and *again* it is something that wordpress forces upon us. In those cases I can only recommend to use the plain-text editor. But since I don’t know what you’ll be using the template for, I also provide the html-editor. Even trying to disable the html-part and re-enabling with some JS is a very dauting task in WP. * Your last problem, the 14 br-tags, are probably coming from each newline in the table (since it isn’t terminated by an closing table-tag). I think you’re right in that regard that I first should put together the different parts (header/entry/ footer) before interpreting it and adding br-tags (I do check to make sure that I don’t add br-tags inside open html-tags, but since your table-tag is not closing that is not sufficient). I’ll check the code for the last part and see for improvements. I have tested with the old versions, version 2.0.16 works as usual. I have also installed your current dev version, but could not see any significant change at first glance. At the moment I have no time to test. * To your question for what I use the custom templates. I actually use them for everything, single event format, rsvp format, mail template and shortcodes. I currently use over 50 templates. In the handling I use only the plaintext editor, I never change into the wysiwyg view, this destroys my code every time. I have the problem that I have a lot of different types of evnts. I have created a template for each event type that contains the event type and necessary custom attributes. With the help of the eme_event_preinsert_filter / eme_event_preupdate_filter I create my event. I’m adding the right templates for single event format, rsvp, mail templates, custom attributes and so on. I now did things differently (and I hope more correct) in a way that there’s now an option per template where you can deactivate the nl2br-conversion. That should help your table-row-br issue. Otherwise I can only recommend that you keep everything on 1 line for a table-row template, but that’s not really user-friendly either. The layout of the event, shortcodes and rsvp templates looks good. I could not find any more mistakes there. I have a problem with the event registration with the templates, default or custom templates. Your function eme_get_template_format ($ template_id, $ nl2br_wanted = 1) is called one or more times. The value of the $template_id is once 0, but of course there is no template with the ID = 0. I am not sure if the problem is related to my test installation. Please check again. Since I now use a more elaborate logic there, I needed more info, so inside that function I now call eme_get_template. Again no issue, but I trusted that something was returned (which is of course not always the case, sometimes no template has been set/used). I added a small check in the function to correct that (and some more stuff in the meantime too…).
