    My websites ( and http://www.pineoakhotel) have the Hestia Theme installed. (version 2.5.6)

    When I installed the update for WordPress (both websites) to WordPress 5.4 nl, suddenly I get an errormessage when I try to edit a page.

    I go to the dashboard>pagina’s>pagina bewerken

    The error message is: “Dit block is een fout tegengekomen en kan geen voorbeeld tonen” (Translation: “this block has encountered an error and can’t show a sample”)

    I can add another block, but it gives the same errormessage as soon as I add it.

    I tried to load an earlier revision, but the problem still remains.

    The website don’t have this problem; when I open the page it looks good!

    When I switch the theme of my website to Twenty-Twenty everything just works fine! When I switch back to Hestia the problem re-occurs…

    So I think the problem is in the Hestia theme, I guess…

    Anyone a solution…?

  • Same exact issue. When I try to edit a page or do a new post the Paragraph Block and other blocks give me the same error message “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed.” It makes me think the theme is not compatible with WP 5.4.

    I think that’s the problem too… Maybe ThemeIsle comes with an update for the Hestia Theme….

    Yep, this seems to be a confirmed problem. The moderator team has added it to the “Master list” of known issues with WordPress 5.4.

    Block issue has been resolved but previews and publish issue still exists

    “Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.”

    This message was shown on the screen after clicking on the preview button and an empty preview is generated after that.

    Please resolve this issue also, I think, There is some problem with JSON while saving the content.

    This has been resolved now.

    @vishalsharma123 Please start your own topic. The error message you refer to is simply an indication that the server is sending a response with an unexpected format. In many cases this may be various error messages from the server. But you need to dig a bit deeper in order to troubleshoot this.

    Everyone else: I’m going to close this topic now, since the issue has been solved. Thanks to the people who reported this issue, to the theme developers for solving the problem quickly and to those who confirmed that the issue now is solved.

    Instead of posting a bunch of “thank you” here, perhaps it’s time for you to click over to the review section for the theme and write your review (unless you’ve already done that before 🙂 )?
