# Problems with automatic tasks

 * I recently migrated my blogs to a new server. Since then, backups have not been
   working and at some point I realized new posts weren’t being picked up, probably
   because they are not pinged. I’ve just confirmed this with FeedBurner. Finally,
   I had a post scheduled for today and got a “missed schedule” on it.
 * I’ve applied the patch from [http://www.semiologic.com/2009/12/21/wp-2-9-three-bugs-and-how-to-fix-them/](http://www.semiologic.com/2009/12/21/wp-2-9-three-bugs-and-how-to-fix-them/)
   and changed the cron timeout from 0.01 to 1, as per a bug tracker recommendation,
   but it’s still not working.

 * Have you tried:
 * – deactivating **all** plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works,
   re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
 * – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause
   problems.
 * – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a **fresh** download
   of WordPress?

    - I’ve deleted all my inactive plugins.
    - I’ve downloaded a fresh copy of WordPress 2.9.2 and uploaded the entire wp-
      admin and wp-include folders (the previous upgrade used the automatic method
      straight to the server).
    - I’ve deactivated all my plugins, except for Subscribe2.
    - My memory is already at 64MB and nothing seems to be dying from memory shortage
      as it did when I was on 32MB. There is also nothing related to memory in the
      error log.
 * How are scheduled posts published (by what)? Maybe by tracing the chain of events
   we can find the culprit.

 * I’ve just realized that my blog’s gmt_offset option was empty. I had set the 
   time zone on the General options page to “Brisbane”, which put the string “Brisbane/
   Australia” into the option timezone_string and CLEARED gmt_offset.
 * I’ve set the gmt_offset to 0 manually, but that didn’t make a difference either.
 * Could the cron option be corrupted? Is there a way to reset it without losing
   valid information?
 * Does ANYBODY have an idea how to unravel this mystery?

 * Oddly enough, things seem to be working for me now. I’m thinking it’s something
   on the server. At least it’s gone now.
