A couple months back, some admin privileges disappeared for a day and then came back.
They are gone again, leaving it hard to run the website as needed. I am not very good with this stuff, so will try to explain best I can.

I can log in using /wp-admin/ except sometimes it gives me an error saying it cannot pull up the page. Most of the time I can log in just fine, but I no longer have access to some admin stuff. I can go into the plugins that I have, and add/edit content on those, but I do not have access to the advanced settings to those. I also lost the ability to add/remove plugins, or add/remove people from the website. When I click on the “tools” tab it is just blank, does not load any thing.

    Can anyone help?

  • Hi, do you have (or had) any plugins related to role management/user permissions? This issue sounds like your WordPress user does not have full admin privilege. To fix it will require accessing phpMyAdmin which I can walk you through if you need help.

Additionally, are you able to check if there are any other administrator accounts in your WordPress?

To my knowledge, there was not any role management plugins that I know of. We stick to pretty basic stuff.

I am not able to check any more.

Hi, this makes me suspect it is a hack. You will need to reset your WordPress users admin role in the database and then follow WordPress standard procedure for cleaning up a hacked site.

Okay, how do I reset my WordPress users admin role in the database?

    Hi, here’s a helpful guide.
