    Hello out there,

I’m just about to complete my second WordPress site; the only thing left to do is upload the header image/graphic that I created in Paint.net.

Therein lies the rub…WP rejects the file type (PNG) for security reasons. WP also refuses to upload the same work created in MS Pain, stating the same reason )I’m assuming because both programs share the same PNG file type)???

I’ve re-created the header several times, tried to upload to WP each time with the same results. I’m really frustrated that I can’t figure this problem out, particularly since I had no problem whatsoever uploading my first paint.net header onto my first WP site. Seems backwards huh?

The only difference that I’m aware of, is that the first theme that I used was Twenty Ten, while this time I’m using Weaver 2.0 with the “Orange” subtheme.

Anyone have any thoughts? This is driving me nuts! Like I need more help in that area.

Ideas for a solution would surely be appreciated.

    Thanks….GerryLee

Png should be permitted, but if not, you can save it as jpg or gif in MS paint.

Make sure you’re saving it with the extension visible, and in lower case. Sometimes that matters.

    Ipstenu…Thanks for the replay.

When I began I having this problem, I tried to save the file as a jpeg, but each time Windows automatically and arbitrarily stored it in my folder as a png. This also baffled me. I thought trying it as a gif. later on but never got around to trying that. I’ll try loading it that way.

I just don’t get why all of these things went OK on my first site, but won’t work this time??? Kinda Cwazy! I just can’t imagine what I could be doing to cause these particular things to happen at all…much less multiple times.

Anyway, thanks again for your input. I’ll try your suggestion and let you know how it goes.

    Hey Ipstenu,

I tried, once again to save my paint.net header file as both jpg, and as a gif. No luck. Same result…Windows 7 refuses to store the file as anything other than a “Paint.Net Image” file type, and WordPress refuses to upload it “for security reasons.

I don’t seem to have any options here…and it still blows me away that I was able to use this same program without a hitch the first time out, but can’t make it work a second time.

I feel like I’m going to have to find and learn another image manipulation program and re-create the work in it, just so I can
successfully upload a silly little header image.

That right there is your problem, then. It’s the program, not WordPress. Are you changing the filetype via the dropdown?

P.S. I get the same results in ms Paint. I’m pretty sure I read that it’s based on the sam platform as paint.net and it uses the same pdn. type.

The thing is, I really need to finish up this site today…guess maybe I’ll try to learn Gimp or something in the next few hours….getting desperate for a solution.

No, MS Paint DOES NOT save files as .pdn. And if you’re doing that, yeah, you can’t upload those. You need to save them as a different filetype, and you’ll need to check the help docs :/ I use Mac.

OK…thanks for the correction…that’s the impression I got, but I’ll definitely give it another try based on your advice.

Thanks again…will let you know the results.

    Hello again, Ipstenu.

MS Paint did work this time. WP accepted the upload as a .jpg and I’m in business. Surely do appreciate the help.

Paint shows .pdn as their apparent default file type…guess maybe that confused me, but unlike with paint.net,Windows accepted the file as .jpg, and WP accepted the file from Windows.

    Thanks again for helping.

Use Gimp if you’re looking for a more powerful and free alternative.
