You can then use an FTP client to upload it to your server. The upgrade was not letting me write to a lot of the files in the root directory (550 permission denied) but I was able to delete them and then re-upload them successfully. Among the .php files you will find wp-settings.php (ie in the “root” of the folder). You then upload this file to the “root” directory aka main directory of your website. I use FileZilla as my FTP program of choice. It is free. They were unable to actually fix the problem with the update. When i did the 3.9 update i could not log on to my admin page. They were able to get me into the admin page but thats about it. I’ve only experienced this problem once so my advice is limited and potentially flawed. I’d have assumed that doing a manual upload of the WordPress files via an FTP program would resolve the problem (something the host can do too). And if the file permissions were incorrect (not letting you overwrite files) then the host could also fix this( but you could probably change them with an FTP program too). There is a chance you will have to delete some of your original WordPress files before uploading the new files you downloaded to your PC.
