Until recently the Jetpack Publicize feature was posting my new blog posts to Facebook. A few days ago I realised that Facebook wasn’t able to pull images and was just posting a text link (the FB debugger said that FB was unable to connect to my server). (I’ve checked with my hosting company and they’ve said it’s not an issue on their tech support side.)

I disconnected my Facebook account via Publicize and now it won’t reconnect – error:
‘Something which should never happen, happened. Sorry about that. If you try again, maybe it will work.

    Error code: -10520′

I also tried reinstalling the current version of WP from the WP dashboard but it timed out.

Around the same time IFTTT stopped being able to carry out any of my ‘recipes’ that involved WordPress and the errors state that it’s unable to connect to WordPress’s API.

Any ideas why this might have suddenly happened (maybe it’s linked to the recent WP update??) or how I can resolve it?

When trying to reinstall WP 4.1 the error I get (after a LONG time) is:

    Downloading update from https://downloads.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-4.1-no-content.zip…

Download failed.: Operation timed out after 300000 milliseconds with 1810070 out of 4981478 bytes received

    Installation Failed

Would it make sense to downgrade to an earlier version of WP?

I’ve also tried disconnecting each of my plugins and now can’t reconnect to Jetpack at all.

Error message: ‘Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site http://concretemoomin.com [IXR -32300: transport error: http_request_failed Recv failure: Connection reset by peer]’

As is probably clear, I’m a novice and totally stuck.

I finally discovered that some elements of Jetpack were still working (e.g. widgets) even though I kept getting an error message when trying to connect to wordpress.com.

It was a complete fluke but I installed a plugin called Add Meta Tags to see if that would solve my problem with FB and G+ being able to scrape for images. It seemed that once that was installed I could reconnect to wordpress.com through Jetpack and the Publicize feature is working again (and FB and G+ are also able to scrape for images etc).

I have no idea why this suddenly became necessary. I’m a total novice with this stuff so this kind of happened by accident but I’m just hoping it stays fixed now.
