• Hi,

We are experiencing some problems with a website we’re working on. The problems are visible on Apple Macbooks – screen sizes 13 inches. They are not present on any Windows or Linux device. The problem is that the whole website appears zoomed in on those devices – all texts and content looks much bigger (as if you’ve hit command and plus 2 times).

We are using the theme Astra (pro version) and Elementor. These are the versions we’re using:
    WordPress: 5.7
    Astra: 3.1.2
    Astra Pro plugin: 3.1.0
    Elementor: 3.1.4

We updated Astra, Astra pro, WordPress and Elementor from the previous version to the latest (i.e. from WP 5.6.2 to WP 5.7, etc.) and after that we moved the website from a staging subdomain to the real domain. Both the subdomain and the real domain are hosted on the same server. Right after moving is when the problem appeared. Before that everything looked okay and after everything zoomed in around 15-20% (all margins, texts, etc. zoomed in), without having changed anything. And upon inspect we still see the correct values.

Another thing we want to share is that our current PHP version is 7.3 and current mySQL version is 5.5. In our website’s site health we see that recommended versions are 7.4 for PHP and 5.6 for SQL.

What we have tested so far:
    downgrading WP back to 5.6.2
    downgrading Elementor to 3.1.2
switching to a default WP theme
    disabling all plugins
    And nothing worked.

Here’s a list of all plugins we’re currently using:
AddToAny Share Buttons – Version 1.7.43
Advanced Custom Fields PRO – Version 5.9.5
    Astra Pro – Version 3.1.0
    Contact Form 7 – Version 5.4
Contact Form 7 Conditional Fields – Version 1.9.16
Cookie Notice & Compliance for GDPR / CCPA – Version 2.0.3
    Elementor – Version 3.1.4
    Elementor – Header, Footer & Blocks – Version 1.5.7
Insert Giphy Block – Version 0.1.0
Light and Smart – Version 0.1.0
    MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress – Version 4.8.3
Rank Math SEO – Version 1.0.59
    Regenerate Thumbnails – Version 3.1.5
    Smush – Version 3.8.3
Ultimate Addons for Elementor – Version 1.29.2
    UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore – Version 1.16.48
WP Portfolio (from Astra) – Version 1.11.3

The website is a mix of pages we have coded and ones using Elementor. The problem is present on all pages, regardless of whether they’re custom coded or created with Elementor. We didn’t use a Started template from Astra and did everything from scratch.

This problem is present on all Macbooks, screen sizes 13 inches. It’s not present on Windows devices or Linux devices. We think it should be connected to the updates and the hosting and server parameters (such as PHP and mySQL versions).

We have searched all over the internet, but unfortunately couldn’t find any similar topics. Has anyone experienced any similar problems? Have you seen a zoom-in on a website after a WordPress update or moving your website from one domain to another? Have you come across any similar topics or documentation on WordPress and apple devices in general that may explain why we’re getting this issue? Any information and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,

Here is the website URL: https://limechain.tech/. The problem can be seen on all pages, regardless of whether they’re custom coded or Elementor pages. Thanks!

The site looks the same on my Linux desktop (big monitor, Chrome) and my 13″ Macbook Air (Chrome & Safari).

    Hi again Steven,

Thank you for checking that. At first glance everything seems fine, because all proportions are still correct, it’s just that everything is bigger. Perhaps you can test to compare the black cookie notice banner at the bottom of the page – on Linux you should see something similar: https://prnt.sc/10jo88h, whereas on Macbooks the Read more gray button is overlapped by the Intercom button – https://prnt.sc/10jo8wu. The screenshots are from tests we’ve performed on the same size monitor, respectively on Linux and MacOS.

Could you please post screenshots of how it looks for you on both Linux and Macbook? Please make sure the black banner at the bottom is visible, as it usually shows the problem most clearly. Thank you very much!
