I’ve been trying to mirror our website onto space I have at webhosting.net and have copied over all the files and exported/imported the database. However I still can’t get it to work correctly and at the moment I am stuck with the error “Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /home/colchest/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/lepra/functions.php on line 131” everytime I try to run the site in it’s new location. Can anyone help please? I have several years of html/web experience but am new to WordPress.

  • Might first try deleting that theme folder (wp-content/themes/functions.php) to see if that resolves the problem. Then reupload ‘a clean version’ of that theme.

If you changed URLs then review Changing_The_Site_URL.

Thanks Michael. I tried that and it did make a difference in that a bit more of the site loaded and I got a different error message.

The current hosting company claim “… there is a remote chance that the intended server is not capable of hosting your site : while your alternative hosting company does support WordPress, it doesn’t necessarily follow that all of the features of your heavily modified site will work. It may be, for example, that there are settings we can change on our server that can’t be changed on the new host. That’s not something we can really know until we’ve tried, unfortunately.” Does this sound feasable or are they just trying to discourage us from moving the site?

Deactivate all plugins and switch to the WordPress Default theme to see if that works.

If you continue this thread please report the name of your host and provide a URL to see the problem.

Thanks Michael – it definitely seems to be the Theme that is the problem as it does at least display something now (although none of the links seem to work). The test site URL is http://colchesterguide.co.uk/wordpress hosted at webhostingworld.net while the live site is at http://www.leprahealthinaction.org.

    Thanks,
    Chris.

I’ve now narrowed the problem down to the file header.php in the Theme as if I remove this the site loads although it looks wrong. However I’ve looked at the file and can’t see what is causing the problem.

If you changed URLs you might also want to use this plugin to replace the old URL with the new URL:

Turned out to be a problem in the customised Theme which needed to be resolves (header.php & footer.php files).

I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to move my customized theme from a subdomain to the main root domain.

I can’t seem to get any of the customizations to show up – dozens of new pages / graphics / images / custom design work, etc… just the stock theme as if it hasn’t been touched yet.

I’ve tried to replace the theme with the archived customized theme in a number of ways – but no luck.

Any help would be really great. Thanks!

Make sure that your custom theme is not referencing graphics at the old subdomain. If that doesn’t help, please start your own topic.
