What exactly happens? Are you highlighting the text you want linked and then clicking on the link button?
Yes. It jumps to the dashboard for some reason.
Thanks, Gavin
Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
I’ll give them a go when I have a chance. It could be a plugin…
Switching to Twenty Eleven is a bit time consuming because of all the setting up that switching back requires – but I’m thinking of switching to another theme anyway. Monday, I think will be my first opportunity!
Thanks for the thought.
Gavin
Most themes (at least the ones I have used) retain their setup when switching back and forth. I hope yours does.
I had the same problem and so I deactivated all my many plugins, to find (as I suspected) that the link button then worked. Then I reactivated them one at a time until the link button stopped working again, to find the plugin which was causing the problem.
And the plugin at fault was (drum roll)…

I’ve flagged up the problem here.
Thanks CherryH – that’s really useful to look out for. I guess the author will pick up on it before too long.
