• Hi there.

I want to change my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. My domain is now registered and hosted by DreamHost. I installed the WordPress software with the One-click installation, and got a message saying it was a success. However, when I go to the admin part of my site it is exactly the same as before- it’s still a wordpress.com blog, with none of the features of WordPress.org. Am I missing something?! Do I have to do something after installing to complete it? Any help greatly appreciated! 🙂

    Yes

When did you move your domain name over to point at your new self-hosted site?

My original site was (and is) a wordpress.com site.
These are the steps I took:
From the DNS admin page I transferred the domain to DreamHost. This took a couple of days to complete.
I also changed the name servers to point at DreamHost. It’s the same domain, same site, I don’t have an old site and a new site.

I thought once my domain was registered with Dreamhost, I could just install wordpress.org onto my existing site.

But when I install it it’s exactly the same old wordpress.com site.

Have I missed doing something really obvious here?

I don’t have an old site and a new site.

Your old site would be at wordpress.com, yes?

I’ve flagged this up for the attention of Dreamnhost as I can’t see anything obviously wrong in what you’ve described above. Hopefully one of their WordPress support people should be able to look into this further for you.

Hi, this didn’t email me for some reason *fistshake at servers*

What’s your domain, Pipokas? I’ll take a look at your account.

    Hi!

Problem has now been sorted, it was something to do with the name servers still pointing at the old wordpress.com site and not dreamhost (even though I changed this) and taking a while to switch over. Now fully installed no problems! 🙂

    Thanks

Ok it looks like I spoke too soon!!

This morning it was working and I completed installation and started work on my new site. This afternoon I go to my site and get this message:

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

This login leads to my old WordPress.com blog, which I thought I deleted.

My new wordpress.org site which was fine this morning now seems to have disappeared. Any ideas what could be going on?

I wonder if your DNS is still propogating.

Go to whatsmydns.com and check on the IP for your site. If you see more than one, it’s STILL being updated in the world 🙁

I am getting this exact same error: Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

Did this get resolved once your nameservers fully propogated? I changed them yesterday afternoon. I have twenty70hosting and I have been working with tech support all day. She can go to my site lifeencouraged.com and see my new wordpress.org account but I get the above error message when I try to go there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@sydster145 – please start your own thread – your question is really not the same as you don’t have the same host and every situation like this is likely to be different. You can start a new thread here: http://wordpress.org/support/forum/installation#postform
