Support » Installing WordPress » Problems filling out and saving the “wp-config.php

  • jesstlips

I have installed the download to my Acer Windows 10 latop. I’m not sure if I filled in the information correctly to the wp-config-sample as When I try saving to ‘php’, a message pops up saying “You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save it in the User folder instead”?

    Please Help!

Did you extract all files from the downloaded file?

    Please see:

Are you running WordPress in WAMP, MAMP, XAMP? You don’t fill out the wp_config file, it is created during the install after you insert all of your information.

This sounds like a Windows permissions issue to me. I imagine that you are saving the file under something like “C:\Program Files\Wordpress”, and Windows is funny about saving files outside of your “C:\Users\jesstlips\Documents” folder.

You can work around this by first opening your text editor (e.g. Notepad) as an administrator. There’s a bunch of tutorials on how to do this available. Once you’ve done that you should be able to open the wp_config.php file and edit it without any errors.

If that doesn’t work or if you’re looking for an easier way to get started with WordPress then I would recommend that you take HudsonValleyWebDesign’s advice and try a framework like WAMP.

    Good luck!

Where did you extract the files? It sounds like a permission problem.

Try logging as the admin on your laptop.
