problems displaying background images / slideshow images

hi

this is the first time ive tried to set up a website.

ive applied a featured image to my blog, contact and about pages and set the background option to static image but they do not appear on the website

im basically copying the settings over from my previous hosting a friend did for me so everything looks the same in pages, in galleries and in theme settings but cant work out why it wont display?

also i have a full screen slideshow for the home page again all the settings are the same but it wont show….can anyone rec
