After I updated, the portfolio shows up as little squares 🙁

The problem is the file format. You used BMP files that have limited support in WordPress. The reason you see a little squares is that WordPress can’t figure out the image dimensions and outputs it as 1×1 pixel.

Filet types that are fully supported by WordPress are: GIF, JPG and PNG.
