Support » Plugin: Ads.txt Manager » Problem with WP Engine Installation

  • Hello

    Thanks for developing this plugin.

I have it installed for my news site TimesOfSanDiego.com, have created a file and saved it without error. However, I get a 404 error for https://timesofsandiego.com/ads.txt.

WP Engine confirms rewrites are turned on, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

    Thanks for your help.

Hi there! Sorry to hear this isn’t working for you. I don’t know for sure but I suspect WP Engine’s setup might not route requests to all filetypes through the rewrite rule that allows WordPress to handle them. So in this case their server sees a request for .txt file, tries to find the actual file, and doesn’t fall through to WordPress when it doesn’t find it. Could you perhaps ask them and see if that’s the case?

I was having an issue with WP Engine as well. I reached out to their support and they were able to resolve the issue. When asked what others should ask support to get this fixed on their installs, here’s what the support rep said:

I would just advise future customers of ours to ask us to implement the nginx rule we have listed in our internal documentation specifically for “ads.txt manager” to their installs as needed. It’s just a copy/paste step, really simple for a tech here.

I requested that they implement the fix system-wide, so one can hope 😬
