 * Doing manual upgrade as per extended instructions and hitting dead end.
 * Once all the new files are in place and I go to /wp-admin/upgrade.php I get the
message “One or more database tables are unavailable. The database may need to
   be repaired.”
 * Following that I get the two Repair or Repair & Optimize choices and whichever
I choose takes me to the next screen which asks if I’m sure I want to do this
but no yes/no option. Only think I can click is ‘Please try again’ which just
takes me back to the previous page.
 * If I restore original installation everything looks fine, so database appears
   to be intact.
 * Can anyone offer any advice? New to WP and a bit stuck! Thanks

 * Have you tried deactivating **all** plugins and switching to the default theme?

 * Esmi, thanks for the reply. I had deactivated all plugins but not themes so have
just tried again with only the default theme active but getting same result.

 * Access your WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this
in their control panel), select all of the tables, and choose “Repair tables”
   from the pull-down menu.

 * A fresh tarball seems to have solved my problems. Should have tried that sooner.
Thanks, esmi and macmanx, and sorry if I wasted your time. Appreciate the help!
