Problem with the_ID() and the_permalink()

    @gmetric

    Beginner’s question. I am currently using an app (ShareThis) which makes use of the_permalink() as follows:

    <span st_url='<?php the_permalink(); ?>’>

    However, I would like to ‘hard-code’ these URLs (since I plan on changing the permalink format from the current default, and don’t want to lose everything). That is, I would like to do something like this:

    <span st_url=’http://domain.com/?p=<?php the_ID(); ?>’>

    Unfortunately, this is not working. In fact, when I try to use <?php the_ID(); ?> in any way whatsoever, I cannot get the page ID to display in the HTML (which is strange, since I have no trouble using the_permalink() or the_title()).

    Any advice?
