    Hello,
I’m having some problems with the meta description entered for the categories of products on woocommerce.
Even if it has been inserted, it is seen by google correctly only for the first page, while the following pages of the same category are loaded with a series of short product descriptions that should remain hidden.

The main problem is not to upload short product descriptions in google feeds.

Some examples for my lineastradale.com site
if I am looking for “linea stradale cilindri” results are correct.

if I look for “linea stradalegiuliani ” (where giuliani is a word included in the short product description) the pagination of the category loads the short descriptions of the products with this address: https://www.lineastradale.com/categoria-prodotto/ricambistica/cilindri/page/2/

So, how can i make all the secondary pages look the same as the first for every category?
    Thanks for support
    Antonio

  • Hi @ot002,

It looks like the descriptions that appear in Google for the product category pages are not the ones that you expected. Is this correct? Did you add a custom meta description in the Yoast SEO snippet preview?

If so, we checked the meta descriptions generated by Yoast SEO in the example product archive’s page source and it was the same as the description on the secondary page.

This means that the problem is most likely due to Google selecting a different description instead. You can find more details about this problem and ways to change the description in this article: Google shows the wrong meta description for my site.

    Hi @priscillamc,
i added a custom meta description in the Yoast SEO snippet preview.
    you’re right.
i read the article you seggested and it seems like google ignores the meta description set for category product taxonomy, for the product archive’s page taxonomy.

Isn’t there a way to fix them dicrectly or should they get the snippet from the category product description?

Do you think is possibile to set noindex for all woocommerce product short descriprion?

    Thanks for your support

Ultimately search engines will, as you have seen, make the final decision on what they show in their search results. Due to this being handled on Google’s end, there is little you can do to force Google to display the preferred description. The best advice we can provide, unfortunately, is to try different descriptions. This article provides advice on creating the right description for your site — https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/

With regards to setting paginated archives to ‘noindex’, we wouldn’t recommend that. You can learn more about it here — https://yoast.com/pagination-seo-best-practices/
