I only have limited experience with local, but I did not have any major difficulty getting XAMPP (Apache & SQL modules) running on my own non-Apple:

After you get that working, you will use SQL Admin to make a database shell, then you will have to manually make a wp-config.php file that comes from the sample that it part of the WordPress download.

note: Just copy everything from the unzipped /wordpress/ folder into /htdocs/.
I use MAMP all the time on my Mac. All it takes is:
1. Download MAMP (http://www.mamp.info/en/downloads/)
2. Install/Run MAMP
3. On MAMP Welcome page, go to Tools > phpMyAdmin
4. Click Databases tab
5. For Create database, enter wordpress
6. Click Create
7. Download WordPress 4.1 (https://wordpress.org/download/)
8. Unzip WordPress folder and move folder to /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/ folder
9. Using your browser, go to http://localhost:8888/wordpress/
10. Select your language
11. Click Continue
12. Click Let’s go!
13. For Database Name, enter wordpress (or whatever you used during Step 5!)
14. For Username, enter root
15. For Password, enter root
16. Leave Database Host and Table Prefix fields as is
17. Click Submit
18. Click Run the install
19. Complete all fields
–> read Steps 22 and 23 before proceeding
20. Click Install WordPress
21. Click Log In
22. For Username, enter the username you entered during Step 19
23. For Password, enter the password you entered during Step 19
24. Click Log In
–> Congratulations!
Now just go to http://codex.wordpress.org/First_Steps_With_WordPress and learn all you can about WordPress.
P.S., If your first several attempts fail with WordPress, do try, try again BUT also please do reread both http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Famous_5-Minute_Install and http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions.

Hi, sorry to bump this but I followed all of these – I get to step 18 and don’t know where to ‘run the install’.
If I select the port number or ‘local host’ at the top of the page is the bread crumbs I get error 404 in a yellow box.
If I enter ‘localhost/ my_database name (the name I gave I step 5) then I get a white screen with the word ‘index’ if I select index it says page cannot be found on server.
Any ideas what I’m doing wrong!

please help me step by step process of installation.

What the next step. How I can install and make it run by myself on my computer, not through WordPress.com. Actually, I read 5-minute install tutorial, but I’m sorry, didn’t catch it.

WYSIWYG (lo que ves es lo que hay), un sistema de insertaciones de las cosas en diseño web, y es todo gratuito WordPress con sistema de
colaboraciones, y de numerosas ventajas inigualables.
No incorpora en la pre-instalación de inicio “automático asistente de instalación de guía” por que lo que puede ser más complejo. Este
miembro todavía no lo ha conseguido de ninguna forma, ni con marcas
de instalación, que en definitiva se han negado a funcionar con
normalidad, como ya se lo conoce que hace esto en general del software libre de código abierto. Pero se conseguirá alguna vez.
