Support » Themes and Templates » Problem with IE displaying header text and sometimes sidebar

  • Resolved Jonathan Landrum

    Hello everyone, I finally finished my “masterpiece” theme and plugged it into WP. I began testing with my various and sundry Gecko browsers first (Opera displays differently than FF sometimes). When I got to IE, though, I noticed that sometimes it only displays the text for my heading when I mouse-over, and also the description text when I highlight it. After that it stays on. Also, the sidebar on my archives page displays below the main content div. This is the only browser I’ve noticed these quirks on. Any suggestions?

  • Edit: I got the sidebar to float properly by getting rid of the calendar. However, I still have the problem with the header text. Could it be a styling attribute in the CSS file?

    I am using an image in the <h1> tag; could this be the culprit? I’ll try pulling it out of the heading and just have it display before the header, or I could position it absolutely after the header.

    The image was the problem. I set it as the background. Here’s the CSS:

    #header {
    background: #f0f0eb url('/images/mesquared.jpg') 10px 10px no-repeat;
    height: 150px;
    border: none;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 10px;
    text-align: left;
    color: #8c8178;

    h1 {
    position: top left;
    background: #f0f0eb;
    border: 0;
    margin-left: 160px;
    margin-top: 0;
    padding: 0;
    font-size: 2em;

    .description {
    font-size: 1.2em;
    font-style: italic;
    margin-left: 160px;
    padding: 0;

    Thanks, anyway! I hope this will help some one else.
